These days you hear a
lot about the world financial crisis. But there's another world crisis
under way -- and it's hurting a lot more people. Where the effects of
bad policy are clearest, however, is in the rise of demon ethanol and
other biofuels. The subsidized conversion of crops into fuel was
supposed to promote energy independence and help limit global warming.
But this promise was, as Time magazine bluntly put it, a
"scam." |

Shocking Outburst Halts City Council Hearing
Watch Video
Many of this nations
biggest cities are run by liberal democrats. But Detroit seems to stand
out in it's display of the failure of their socialist agenda. The
education system is run by liberals and unions for the benefit of
teachers and administrators while fewer than 30% graduate. The Mayor
refuses to accept responsibility for his actions and city council is a
joke. |

The Michigan Taxpayers Alliance (MTA)
is an alliance of Michigan citizens who believe the state government of Michigan
is hurting citizens and our economy by taking too much money from citizens and
redistributing it through ever-increasing spending.
The MTA is a true alliance in that its
members are dedicated to stopping the state from increasing taxes from any
segment of Michigan citizens, even those that government sees as an 'easy mark'
due to their relative unpopularity; i.e. smokers, alcohol drinkers, "big
business", small business, gamblers, "bad drivers", "the
wealthy", farmers, or any other taxpayer regardless of their political
vulnerability.
The MTA is a
federally registered 501(c)4 organization dedicated to taxpayer education and
advocacy for reduced state spending and a reduced overall tax burden.

Shut
down Detroit's dropout factories
Bulldozers ought to be
rolling across Detroit, leveling public schools that are trapping
children in poverty and ignorance.
An army of civil rights
lawyers ought to be marching up the steps of the federal courthouse on
behalf of students being denied their basic right to a decent education
by a chronically incompetent school system.
No other response is
adequate to the report that Detroit Public Schools graduates just 25
percent of its students. That news last week should have rocked this
city with outrage. |

Michigan sees fewer gun deaths — with more permits
Six years after new
rules made it much easier to get a license to carry concealed weapons,
the number of Michiganders legally packing heat has increased more than
six-fold.
But dire predictions
about increased violence and bloodshed have largely gone unfulfilled,
according to law enforcement officials and, to the extent they can be
measured, crime statistics. The incidence of violent crime in Michigan
in the six years since the law went into effect has been, on average,
below the rate of the previous six years. The overall incidence of death
from firearms, including suicide and accidents, also has declined. |

Wixom fund balance grows by $2 million
The city had an
increase in its fund balance of $2.1 million over the last year, and has
added more than $600,000 to its budget. The Budget Stabilization Fund is
currently holding a balance of approximately $1.5 million. This fund is
a five-year "living" account that will continue to grow for
the next three years. According to Dornan, at the end of the five-year
period if the money hasn't been used to offset revenue losses — which
is expected in upcoming years when the Ford assembly plant will stop
generating tax revenue for the city — it will be refunded back to the
taxpayers.on fun
